When IH came with the 4 and 560's, they had a larger fuel tank than previous model tractors and that extra head of fuel on the needle and seat seemed to cause a lot of leaking carburetors when the farmer filled that tank up. IH then introduced the viton tipped needle and seat which did a very good job of holding . This needle and seat was approved for all previous tractors using the IH carburetors. Many years later, the quality of that needle and seat deteriorated and has never been the same since.I have been repairing these carburetors for over 50 years now and I think I have seen "most" everything that can cause them to leak, stick closed, clog up or whatever. That being said though, when one no longer learns something new he no longer is doing anything.
