Yup, I agree. The "Modern view" is scaled back so much, it's actually annoying when a person is used to what capabilities is could have, but doesn't. But I prefer it over "Classic" because it's more in line with what I'm used to. To each his own if both are offered.
I suppose this discussion will continue to go on forever. In my opinion, I find two features of Modern overwhelmes everything else:
1. Threads are sequenced by the date of the most recent posting. Therefore if you check in a couple times a day, immediately you know "what's new". Even a old thread can be reactivated. I never go down more than a page or two in Classic. Who has the time?
2. Posts within a thread are sequenced by time of posting. You immediately can follow what's been going on in the discussion.
I agree that Classic gives you a quick look at the scope of the thread and who's contributing. But I use Modern because I can see what's current, and how the discussion has proceeded. To me it represents the reality of a real in-person discussion. Maybe there's a way to adjust Classic to sequence things differently, but if there is I've never found it. For whatever it's worth I participate in half a dozen other forums on other topics, and they are also of Modern style. Not expecting to change anyone's opinion: just to register mine.
