If we're taking cheap shots, how about this:

It's that cockamaime program that keeps the old view update for the stubborn old coots who won't join the 20th century, let alone the 21st.

All in good fun, gentlemen. All in good fun.

Well IF IT WAS NOT FOR US OLD COOTS then you youngsters would not know how to fix the OLD Stuff . And JUST WHERE DID ALL THIS HIGH TECH GET US TODAY ?????? we have cars that are made like a Budwiser can that can not get out of thewre own shadow and do not get that much better gas milage unless your driving a little 4 banger . And TODAY's socalled Mechanic's have a real hard time getting it wright on the second or third TRY . We have record unemployment and hardly nothing made here anymore. And you are willing to by junk tools because they are CHEAP Made in a far away place that does not even like us . But you want to play with old tractors that were made here when people did have Real jobs and worked hard . And now you do not like the OLD View , Then ya whine because ya can not see WHAT US OLD GUYS had to say . And the funny part is that when we were YOUNG GUYS we kept our mouths shut and ears open and learned FROM THE OLD GUYS .

Having used both the ONLY advantage to the so-called modern view is that I can correct my posts if I goof up, provided I do it soon enough, happens more frequently than I like. I'm an old coot, but I began using computers in the early 80's shortly after the original IBM PC appeared, likely before some of the highly technical young squirts were born -- Modern View is simply no big deal. Much easier to keep track of posts on classic. As to falling off the page, I don't see any more posts there than before modern view began. The Red Power Mag forum has always been modern view, it is ok. I don't know what all the hassel is about, they are both easy to use.

During the first few months of Modern view, site management claimed that only 10% of the total site usage was modern view. I don't think it has changed much.

I open up a tab on my browser for each style. I can click back and forth. They both have good but different features. Preference may have something to do with an individual's daily frequency. For someone who looks at YTMag every couple of hours, Modern makes more sense. The once-a-day guys are better off with Classic.

If there was only one style, I would prefer Classic. I usually post in Classic so that response continuity is maintained. Most of my posts have pictures and image URLs are different between the two styles. In some cases, the URLs won't be opened by the other view. That means I have to back up and post both image URL's on both views. That's annoying.

The best part of Classic is that a reader can scan the topic page faster. My decision to open a thread is often influenced by who has contributed to a topic. For instance, I have no interest in A's or later variants of the Cultivision tractors. But when Hugh MacKay replied, as he always did on those topics, I would open the thread. There are several other unnamed contributers that I have the same interest in.

The "modern" forum is the same as what is used on several other sites that I go to. The difference is that on those other forums, the "modern" style actually works and is a breeze to use. Entirely different situation here.

I resent being called a old coot! I'm an old codger. But I sure do like the Modern View. That old (Classic) view makes my head hurt. David.............

Yup, I agree. The "Modern view" is scaled back so much, it's actually annoying when a person is used to what capabilities is could have, but doesn't. But I prefer it over "Classic" because it's more in line with what I'm used to. To each his own if both are offered.

I suppose this discussion will continue to go on forever. In my opinion, I find two features of Modern overwhelmes everything else:

1. Threads are sequenced by the date of the most recent posting. Therefore if you check in a couple times a day, immediately you know "what's new". Even a old thread can be reactivated. I never go down more than a page or two in Classic. Who has the time?

2. Posts within a thread are sequenced by time of posting. You immediately can follow what's been going on in the discussion.

I agree that Classic gives you a quick look at the scope of the thread and who's contributing. But I use Modern because I can see what's current, and how the discussion has proceeded. To me it represents the reality of a real in-person discussion. Maybe there's a way to adjust Classic to sequence things differently, but if there is I've never found it. For whatever it's worth I participate in half a dozen other forums on other topics, and they are also of Modern style. Not expecting to change anyone's opinion: just to register mine.
