Matt Weltz said: (quoted from post at 21:02:58 10/06/09) Hi guys! I am helping my sister look for a small acreage tractor...mostly to plow snow and move round bales. Might be some mowing with a finish mower too. What do you guys think of the IH 300 utilities? Any pros or cons of these tractors? How would it compare to a John Deere 1010 or Ford 861? Want a utility style tractor with live hydraulics and live PTO. Power steering would be a plus but not required. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!
I like IH tractors, but I would be looking at something with a good 3 point set-up, they are just more versatile... the 300U can have a 3 point hitch adapted to it, but it's not the best of situations. Either a newer IH with an "on purpose" 3point or some other brand with one. Fords always had it and the 1010 has it. If the round bales are very big, I would want something bigger than those tractors anyway. Smaller bales, they would be okay... I know a lady with a 420 JD and it will barely handle small bales.

It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro
