Valuating a Cub or any tractor/bike/vehicle/grandma's wedding dress is subjective at best and downright skewed at worst. Having a Harley dealership you already know this. The questin at hand really is what is a fair price to ask for a "confirmed" demonstrator. When dealing with this subject, one must realize that a demonstrator only has a premium affixed to it if interests a collector. If a person is not a collector of demonstrator's, well, it is just a 1950 Cub. This would apply to any of the applicable models in the Mid Century Program and not just Cubs.
For those standard 1950 Cubs ... the ballpark figure for one that is straight, mechanically sound, no cracks, welds or breaks nor missing parts.. $1,500.00 to $2,000.00 would be about right. For an unrestored demo you could add a 50% premium at the best and hope to get it. That would bring it to the $2,250.00 to $3,000.00 mark. That would be a good price in any location period.
I only know of a half dozen confirmed Demonstrators here in my neck of the northeast or maritime provinces. They are decidedly rare here. Oh and one acqaintance actually owns a pair of sequentially numbered Demo Cubs. However, on the whole, demonstrator Cubs are only worth on average about $3,500.00 Cdn fully restored and in top flight shape.
I am really sorry that that you choose to accept Alex's grand guestimate which is all it really is, over more accurate figures. Alex is seriously off the mark in the real world. However, Alex is correct in his pricing ifand onlyif one ascribes to P.T. Barnum's most oft quoted saying... :roll: :shock:
I would caution moderation in the price you decide to ask. A fair price would be to start in the $2,500.00 range and see what happens. You may end up having to drop your price, or if you are really lucky.. a bidding war will occur and poof :!: you could end up highly surprised.
