Aside from the engine and a few minor sheetmetal details there's no difference between an M and an MD.
My suspicion is that sometime in its 60 year existence your tractor's original diesel went bad and M gas motor was swapped in. You might check the serial number or casting date codes on the block to determine the year of the engine you now have. Then get an owner's manual for that year's gas M and you should be good.
