Well, I thought I knew what I was talking about. Turns out, sounds like I was wrong, so far. Guess that's what I get for thinking.

Started getting some whining and squawkin from my p/s and hydraulic pump. Steering wheel would be hard to turn, and then it would cause the ol' girl to shudder, and fade out. She'd die, and I could fire 'er right back up, and everything was great again.

Go out to fire her up, starts to turn, and she's inchin back in reverse. Funny, I thought I left her in Neutral. Push the clutch in, shift to 2, and she's still going backward.

Pull off the side plate, pulled the piggyback unit, open the hydraulic pump, and there's gouges like nobody's business, but the hydraulics were still working ok. Looks like there's a missing key in the shaft of the gear that runs the p/s pump.

Shrapnel from that key clogging up a valve somewhere?

Thanks to Steel Wheel Ranch for helping
me to not buy a new 17GPM and burn it up. Always nice to talk to someone who's interested in educating the customer and not just selling them a product.

I guess my second question would be, how much performance would I lose on my loader if I went down to the 12 GPM? I don't do that much with my loader, but I don't want to lose the ability to lift all the crap I do now.

Help!

Cliffnotes Version:

Farmall 560 w/ New Idea Loader, 17GPM Cessna pump, p/s works, hydraulics work, Forward gears do not, HY-Tran was milky, operator platform near trans. was hot to the touch, will buy more from Steel Wheel Ranch, HELP!

I may be tractor ignorant, but I'm not tractor handicapped.

Thanks,

Matt

Today's Featured Article - Box Plow Blues - by Tom Schwarz. One of the first implements most tractor owners obtain is the box plow. For very little money, this piece of equipment promises to plow and flatten any hill or vale on your ranch road or farm. At least that's what I thought! As simple as a box plow appears, it can be rather challenging to make work correctly. In our sandy soils of Florida, traction is king. You can never have wide enough tires or heavy enough weights to get all the traction you want … unless you own a monster tractor. U ... [Read Article]
