If you want the theory behind the Delco 10si (which is likely the alternator your dealer gave you, do a google search for "alternator theory V15.0" Our 806D was converted to gen to a 1-Wire Alternator by a previous owner.I just converted it to a 3 wire so it matches our 966. Below is an excerpt from a post I had made here a year or so ago regarding the rewiring. I like this method better than the resistor, as it allows you to use the stock AMP light in the gauge cluster.
"I took a look at how the one wire alternator is wired in last night. He ran a wire from the Batt terminal on the alternator to the solenoid. From there is a wire that goes through a small circuit breaker to a box to run our round baler tying control. There is a battery cable running to the batteries (two 12 volts wired in parallel), and a wire that runs up into the factory wire loom to power the gauges, lights, key switch and added voltage gauge. To put a three wire alternator in, I want to run an 8 ga. wire from the alt. to the solenoid (the old wire is about 10 or 12 ga.). Then run a 16 ga. wire from the 1 terminal on the alternator to the original factory amperage idiot light and then to the key switch. Then run a 16 ga. wire from the 2 terminal to the batt terminal on the alternator."
