I just got going through receipts from the restoration on my BN and remembered your remark about the price of bearings on that differential shaft and how I thought it sounded kind of steep.
Here's what I dug up, bearing in mind that this was back in '02
ST 202 (IH-C-245) - bearing supporting the shaft on the tranny end - $18.50
ST 205 A (IH-C-235) - inner bearing on shaft thru final drive - $11.00
ST 278 (IH-L-250) - outer bearing on shaft thru final drive - $44.25 NO IDEA what makes this one so precious!
As far as the numbers, the ST numbers are what are listed in the number column in the parts catalog, and matched the numbers on my invoice from Bermuda Ken & Co. The numbers in parens are listed in parens in the catalog after the description of the part, and matched the numbers on the bearings that I took out, so I'm guessing there was a change in part number, maybe associated with a change in manufacturer, somwhere along the line.
Bottom line, though, and my point in posting, is that even if the part numbers for yours are different, the bearings wouldn't/shouldn't be so different. I put just under $75 per side into three bearings for each side, <$150 total. I suppose in the span of six years that will have gone up and perhaps substantially, but $130 for any single bearing seems way out of line.
If somebody is sticking to that price, I'd suggest you call Ken at Carter & Gruenewald or your favorite CaseIHNHFord dealer and see if they can do better.
