I believe the IH rated the tractor for three plows. But that doesn't mean a whole lot. You need to consider soil type, soil moisture, plow depth, plow width, speed, and probably a few other variables that an experienced farmer knows as second nature. I am not an experienced farmer but I would guess there are some situations where an MTA might handle 5 plows. What interested me in your question is the reference to "the torque". The torque amplifier should not be considered a working speed range. It should be engaged on a "as needed" basis. If you select low range in any gear as the ratio you want to do your work, you have just negated the benefit of having a torque amplifier. You no longer have the power shift gear reduction feature because you have already used it. The TA should only be used when starting the tractor in motion and when the load on the motor suggests that you downshift.
