Well I still need some advice on this job. I have the tire, and hub removed from the axle and have the axle cleaned up using a right angle grinder and a cup wire brush. Though it is not polished, it is down to bare metal with all of the dirt and paint removed. I have the bearing retainer removed from the end of the axle housing, and the bolts that bolt the housing to the differential housing removed. Where do I go from here? The IT manual mentions removing the PTO cover and removing the cap screw from inside the bull gear. Is this the only way to remove the housing? Can the housing be removed from axle without removing the axle?
As I re-read the IT manual it seems to point to the only way of seperating the axle and axle housing is by removing them as a unit and then seperating them. I suppose if I do this I don't have to remove the axle from the axle housing, to replace the gasket or O-ring, whatever the case may be.
As you can tell, I am stuck at this point, and in need of advice.
