Just purchased a 1940 A model tractor last week.
Its my first tractor and I am just now learning all about it.
I bought the shop manual but it is not very informative.
It does not run and so far I have determined it is the spring in the magneto that is not causing the snap to make a spark.
the guy I bought it off of said it was "converted" to 12v already, but as I have found what he meant was he put a 12v battery in it. Oh and he "converted the lights also, by removing them.
the starter is bad so I bought a new one today and should have it by the end of next week.
the sediment bowl leaks, so I bought a new gasket and glass bowl which I should also have next week.
the right rear wheel makes noises and wobbles when I move it. I looked online at case and saw the diagram of the rear wheel and I guess it could be one or both of the bearings , but i am not sure.
the steering looks like it is missing the tie rod ball seat (center and end) pieces because the end of the steering arm gear is empty and the tie rods keep falling out.
I have aleady purchased a new 6 volt battery,6 volt starter, 6 volt external coil, cap, rotor , plugs, wires, condensor
should I go ahead and convert the system to negative ground and add a generator or can i put in an alternator with a voltage regulator to drop it down to 6volts? I would like to also add a solenoid and install a switch in the a dash by the seat, is that possible?
