Well I went out yesterday and jacked the tractor up, not quite enough to raise the tire completely off the ground, but darn near it. I figured this should pretty much neutralize the weight on the casting. I was able to get four bolts around the bottom to tighten up some, but the upper ones would not budge. I thought that maybe I was onto something. It didn't help at all. As a matter of fact, after that I foolishly removed a large bead of silicone that I had put on the shoulder between the housing and the differential to act as an external gasket, and it is leaking at a fairly fast rate. About 1 1/2 gals. over night. Now I guess I have to get serious about this.
Concerning one of my earlier postings in this topic.... Do I have to remove the bearing retainer, seals and bearing before removing the housing, or can I just clean up the axle real well and slide the housing and all off the axle?
