I have a 424D that "pressurizes" the fuel tank after running for a while. The tank cap looks to be original. It is about 2 1/2 to 3" tall with two tangs to engage the tank filling spout and has a seal gasket. Stamped into the top of the cap is "Buy clean fuel-keep it clean".
I filled the tank with diesel to about 90% and ran the tractor about three hours continuance - bushhoging. Tractor ran perfect. Shut the engine down (after idling for a few minutes to cool) and removed the cap to refuel. The pressure released from twisting the cap off almost blew the cap out of my hand. Looking at the cap I can find no venting mechanism. Never had a tank that "pressured up" before.
What do I do? What's the cause and cure? It's got to vent somehow or the tank would form a partial vacuum as the fuel is reduced in the tank. But, why would it pressure up? Thanks! bob f.
