We have and MD with a Behlen power steering(motor?). Right now the PS is powered by the original tractor hydraulics and the 3 point lift that my dad built is powered by a belt driven live pump off the front of the engine. This pump came off and old 'Power Grader" motor grader that was built around an MD, and ran all of the grader hydraulics. This setup works OK but the steering unit has blown shaft seals(steering wheel side) on two occasions. Oil did not 'blow out' but leaked by the bearing/bushing pretty heavy.
1- How much pressure and flow do the Behlen and Charlynn systems require.
2- Would the pressure/flow from the Farmall hyd. system be too much for these?
3- We were thinking of putting a flow divider on the live pump and powering both systems. I don't know the output of the belt driven pump but I am guessing 10-12 gpm. We do have access to an old IH dealer hyd. test set to measure pressure and flow.
4- Are the PS pumps that went between the distributor and dist. drive still around or unobtainable? We have that type of PS on our old gas M and it has not needed anything in about 35 years. Anyone know what brand/model those pumps were.
5- Also considering putting a small automotive type pump on for PS and returning the 3-point to tractor hydraulics.
