it isn't a #8. it is somewhere in the 230ish numbers for model.. I have not found a specific manual for it yet. The planter is very similar to the earlier 202 / 204 / 206 planter except those are still setup for horse drawn.
Once you get into the 240 series planters the drill shaft and drive mechanisms on the planter boxes are totally different. The frame is also a bit different and though the holes look the same as earlier models the row spacing / setting is different both in the frame and on the markers.
these planters came in 3 versions, check row, drill and hill drop. You could also get a whole slew of different options.
If you need I have a 202 / 204 / 206 manual I could photo copy, though it is for a horse drawn model it is more or less the same as mine as far as setup goes. I also have a manual kindly sent to me from a fellow member here that is close but a bit different... I use it for work and knowledge for the trip mechanism.
My planter was also used by my grandfather for a few decades. It is a drill and planted sweet corn for me in the spring. I also have a fertilizer framework and bases just need to make some new boxes and other small parts that have rotted away.
