I got the oil gauge and the rest back on in the new panel I made so now you can see it! :)
I still have to install 2 more gauges before I'm done and remount my tachometer on the underside of the steering tube.
One question and maybe you, Hugh, George or someone else could answer it. Why.....why....does my oil pressure spike to 40psi at startup and gradually wind down to 12-13 psi (shown in pics) when operating temp is reached????? This is a fresh engine with fresh bearings EXCEPT for the cam bearings which I could not find at the time (didn't know about CASE/NH site). I would imagine the bearings are not at fault here, the oil pump maybe but not the bearings unless the cam bearings are just wallowed out and if that were the case I would think I would have noticed the play when I checked it. Maybe I need to remachine the bottom plate of the pump? Any tips or advice here? Maybe go to a thicker oil than 30 weight? Is 13psi OK or will I damage the engine when I put it under load????
Additionaly, is 160 degrees a reasonable IDLE operating temp? While I was re-routing the sending unit I lost a few cups or so of coolant so the top tank isn't FULL like it was to the brim but maybe 1" from the top of the core. Still the upper reservoir isn't huge and I wouldn't think that it would make that terrible a difference.........am I wrong? I do plan on topping it off again, I just hadn't any water that night.
