I got the oil gauge and the rest back on in the new panel I made so now you can see it! :)

I still have to install 2 more gauges before I'm done and remount my tachometer on the underside of the steering tube.

One question and maybe you, Hugh, George or someone else could answer it. Why.....why....does my oil pressure spike to 40psi at startup and gradually wind down to 12-13 psi (shown in pics) when operating temp is reached????? This is a fresh engine with fresh bearings EXCEPT for the cam bearings which I could not find at the time (didn't know about CASE/NH site). I would imagine the bearings are not at fault here, the oil pump maybe but not the bearings unless the cam bearings are just wallowed out and if that were the case I would think I would have noticed the play when I checked it. Maybe I need to remachine the bottom plate of the pump? Any tips or advice here? Maybe go to a thicker oil than 30 weight? Is 13psi OK or will I damage the engine when I put it under load????

Additionaly, is 160 degrees a reasonable IDLE operating temp? While I was re-routing the sending unit I lost a few cups or so of coolant so the top tank isn't FULL like it was to the brim but maybe 1" from the top of the core. Still the upper reservoir isn't huge and I wouldn't think that it would make that terrible a difference..... ...am I wrong? I do plan on topping it off again, I just hadn't any water that night.

One year ago today I got my 240 panel ready to install. Used new automotive gauges as this one has to earn it's keep. New halogen headlights for a 58 Chevy also. Ain't nothing too good for my dawg. David.

Did you always want to be a pilot? LOL

Looks good. Going to put a clock in there too? Dont forget the fuse in that small hole.

I cant say for certain what my oil pressure is with the gauge I have. It goes half way on startup and stays there. The gauge is a repo I got from OEM and it doesnt have numbers.

On my 140 it operates around 7 lbs when Im mowing, noticed that Friday. I never noticed what it was when I started it up.

I dont have a guage to tell my water temp. I had to put a new radiator in it when I restored it so I figured it was OK.

Fill the water up to the bottom of the neck. I overfiled mine and got a shower when I was going down the street the first time.

The tach going where that nail is?

Did you get my email about how far the bar is from the fender?

HAHAAA! Well I do enjoy aircraft and any other machine that has lots and lots of instruments! You ought to see my other vehicles, I've customized them to where it feels like your sitting inside of a Christmas tree there are so many illuminated gauges.

Maybe not a clock but possibly an oil temp gauge or maybe another pressure gauge for the hydraulics. I can tap into that port that you screw the test gauge into.

I will top off my radiator tonight and see what will happen. Hope that it is just not full enough and not that my water pump is going bad.

I fabbed a special bracket that does indeed use the steering collar bolt as a attaching point. I havent decided wether I will mount it up top or under and off to the left though. I'm starting to like the underside location because it is a tractor after all and will be going through the weeds and could possibly damage the tach if it is exposed atop the column.

I haven't checked to see if I recieved your email yet, I'm on days off but will be back Tuesday and will see then! :)

Yep but they are allot cheaper and I can actually read these. :) I had a repro amp gauge and had it on for all of a whole day, returned it after that. It made me feel like I was looking at a fancy dummy light because it didn't actually give any readings. I tell you what though, it sure is hard to find gauge that reads in small increments.

Patrick, that engine has no cam bearings, so that is not the issue. I would sustect the oil pump, and inspect and flatten the endplate. some have made nice endplate reinforcements that go over the original and provide rigid support (it takes some drimmel, or machine shop effort) The end gap is set with gaskets (very thin gaskets that are shims as well) the end spacing should be at .0008 to .001"

Gauges are looking great. If it has thermo syphon, that is probably normal. JimN

GOOD! Man Jim you really don't know how releving this is to hear!!!!

I thought for certain I was doing wrong by not replacing the cam bearings. I looked and looked and couldn't find squat and no one....NO ONE....could give me an answer why. Now I know it is just something I couldn't help anyway so that is cool with me!

Now I'll tell you what.....I had no idea that the gaskets were supposed to be shims. When I tore it down it had 3 gaskets on it and it had some slight wear on the plate. I think I put 3 or maybe 4 back on it (because I had an extra) because they were very very thin gaskets and I figured maybe I had to. I think I may need to tear into it again.....

Patrick, there is absolutely nohing wrong with your oil pressure. Think of this. The hotter the oil gets the thinner it gets, thus making holding the 40 pounds of pressure a hard task. As long as it holds around 10 pounds or more it is fine. I ran my old C for 25 years on the same engine at 7 pounds during normal farm work and it held up fine. I put several thousand hours on it plowing, disking, cutting hay, raking hay, cultivating and a few other chores to.
