SOS I need help badly - starter elecrtical problem

I have a 74 Cub Lo-Boy with a no start problem. Nothing at all happens when I turn the key, not even a click. I bought a manual and using the schematic, I traced the problem to the starter switch behind the dash. There are three poles, an inbound heavy cable from the positive side of the battery, an outbound heavy cable to the generator terminal A, and a smaller inbound cable from the safety switch circuit that locates between the two heavier cables. When I turn the key to the start position, I get the required 12v from the safety circuit to the switch, I assume this is a relay to switch on the starter. Well, there is no voltage out of the switch to the generator when the 12v goes to the relay. I've tried three different switches and they all do the same thing so I think the problem is somewhere else. I am a tractor rookie so I have to ask this, where in hades is the starter on this thing? I know I have a generator because I have a saddle mounted voltage regulator with two coils inside, is the starter part of the generator or somewhere else? It almost seems like I'm missing the means to complete the circuit and current won't flow. What do you guys think? I've been messing with this thing for a few weeks, I'm losing my patience, it's about to get sold off and parted out. It ran last fall when parked. Thanks in advance. Joe
