My dad and grandpa each owned MD's, they were both 1949 models. They came from the factory with 2 batteries. The one under the seat was not quite like the ones that were under the seat on the stage II Supers, etc. Dad eventually went to one twelve volt battery and removed the box under the seat. He later traded the MD for a new 400. A few years later our shed burned down and we found the old battery box in the debris.
