Mechanical TA- how far would you go?

Bought kind of a basket case 544 row-crop diesel a couple months ago. Got it mostly fixed up to the point where it's field ready. Problem is, the TA slips in direct. Haven't had the cover off yet to see if the TA clutch is soaked in oil, which it very well probably is, but if it's not, I was thinking about just splitting it once and replacing just the TA clutch. My only concern is, that if I remember right, that little TA clutch is quite expensive. Seems like for just a little more $ you could buy a reman unit and be done. Third option would be to rebuild what I've got. Need some opinions from you guys who keep up on the prices of these parts. I've never run into one that was slipping in direct, I've always had to do the complete double split gut out the clutch housing job. No need to consider the cost/time of the labor involved doing the single split vs. double split.
