Nothing make beans like a lard kettle. I have a big one that belonged to gramps, I also have his sausage grinder and lard press, I still use them some. It would be a large number to know how many hogs have been through these. When I was a kid we killed 20 to 25 every year on Thankgiving day. I am from Winchester, Ky it is about 20 miles from Lexington right down I-64. I actually live in another county now, but barely. My place is on the county line of Clark, Mongomery and powell county. I grew up here in a community called Indian Old Fields. It was at one time a big gathering place for Indians. It is my understanding that they had a trading post and gathered here for hunting trips.
