Hi Eric, my 10 was doing the exact same thing regardless of the pto. At first it would make a deep heavy thump like a steel bowling ball being dropped on a steel deck, then a softer thump about a second later. Would make this sound just a soon as it stopped rolling. If it was good and hot you could be sitting still, push in the clutch and you could hear the thump after a couple seconds. After a couple more years of punishment the thump became the "jump forward" that you describe, feels like you just got rear-ended by a moped doing about sixty mph. I think it was a clutch in the TA that would grab at the last minute. There were loose pieces falling out of my TA unit like rain when it came out! Anyway, I am confident it is the TA causing your trouble. While it's open you just as well do a clutch and input shaft, the splines were almost gone on mine, and my trans brake was so far gone that I forgot it had one! I don't do any haying or overloading so I went with the TA eliminator
