Hi Scotty, the tach drive is driven by the camshaft timing gear and the shaft on the tach worm gear wears. Check the archives someone posted a fix by brazing a bead on the end of worm gear shaft and filing to proper length. Can't remember which style of German Diesel engine it was posted against. They all use common parts all the way from 3 cyl D179, 4 cyl D206,D239,D246,D268 and 6 cyl D310,D358. Have you resolved the smoking 674D? JB2
