Wow, quite a confusing thread.

The Behlen pump up by the distributor is a live pump, but does not have enough capacity to run a loader and 3pt hitch. It's only 3GPM, as far as I know, just enough to run the power steering and maybe a small hydraulic cylinder for something like a mower lift or snow plow...

Attaching the power steering to the belly pump would mean that whenver you pushed the clutch pedal, you'd lose power steering, and it'll be ten times has hard to steer than it would be without no power steering at all...

Another option is to convert to a factory live hydraulic pump, and run everything off it, using a priority valve to the power steering.

You can blow a CharLynn steering motor with the flow from a factory live pump, so you'll definitely want a relief valve in the mix. Dad was using the belly pump as a reservoir on his Super M and the cows knocked the belly pump lever back. When he went to start the tractor, KABLOOEY! Suffice it to say that he removed the lever permanently after that little $500 mistake.
