I graduated in 1951. Was suppose to get out in 1950, but they went to a 12 year school system in place of the 11 year system and my class was the first to catch it here in MD. My older brother graduated with me and joined the AF a few days
later. I was going to join with him, but mom started bawling about having two sons going to war. I told her she had better get used to the idea since I would probably be drafted. I left the farm too and went to work for US Government testing tanks and trucks. I still helped my dad with the morning milking. Had about 40 cows at that time. Our neighbor's son was drafted in 1952 and they tried to keep him out on the farm, but he wouldn't stay in school or on the farm. He made E-7 in 11 months in Korea. He was a crack shot and had all kind of rifles. His family was well to do. He tore up about every car they had. He was a changed man when he came back from Korea and settled down and got married.
He had scopes on about all his rifles and we popped a lot of ground hogs. Hal
