Could you guys tell me when Super M # F38899J was made and where it fit into the whole series? I know the engine has been replaced and the serial number on it is 13810, or at least that's the way I read it. Is it the right engine for the tractor. Thanks for the help!

You are both younguns because I had already had 3 years in the AF and got married in Aug 53 on leave from US AF in Europe.

1953. I would guess the engine to also be 1953, but much earlier in the year. There should be a casting code on the block in the form of 1*8*Y meaning the block was cast on Jan 8 1953. Entirely possible the block could have an X on it for 1952.

I looked up the SN for an M. Your Super M was built in 1953. That was a good year, I was married and drafted into the Army that year. Hal

HHmmmm Married and drafted - '53 was the year I graduated from Hi school. Guess we both qualify for the ol' timers club. Did you do a hitch in Korea?

I graduated in 1951. Was suppose to get out in 1950, but they went to a 12 year school system in place of the 11 year system and my class was the first to catch it here in MD. My older brother graduated with me and joined the AF a few days
later. I was going to join with him, but mom started bawling about having two sons going to war. I told her she had better get used to the idea since I would probably be drafted. I left the farm too and went to work for US Government testing tanks and trucks. I still helped my dad with the morning milking. Had about 40 cows at that time. Our neighbor's son was drafted in 1952 and they tried to keep him out on the farm, but he wouldn't stay in school or on the farm. He made E-7 in 11 months in Korea. He was a crack shot and had all kind of rifles. His family was well to do. He tore up about every car they had. He was a changed man when he came back from Korea and settled down and got married.
He had scopes on about all his rifles and we popped a lot of ground hogs. Hal

I did my tour at Ft Bragg with the 82nd. They signed the truce as I was completing basic training. We only had one person to go to Korea.
He went AWOL during basic and I think that's why he went. Our daughter was born at Bragg. Cost $5.25. Should have extended for another year and had one more. Still have the same wife. My late
older brother got hitched 5 times. Hal
