Carefully scrape the carbon off the top of the pistons and vacuum out the excess. Remove the plate on the right side of the engine, along with the lifters (be sure to put them back in the original holes) and you will be able to get most of the glop out. As Janicholson says, don't pore the stuff down the cylinders. I usually use parts cleaner rather than kerosene. One problem with this: The inside of the block is coated with residue. Next to impossible to get it all out without just loosening part of it and not really removing it all. I would change the oil a couple of times after you get it going.
