I have repalced numerous ones!! What I do is lossen the bolts on the axle casting and pry it out as far as it will go, about 1/8 to 1/4 in. With a long thin bladed knife you can remove the old gasket. you can cut the new gasket into two halves, cutting it at an angle with the cuts near the top in the front and rear and insert each halve. I place a small amount of rv gasket maker over the cuts and bolt it back together. Has worked very well!! A neightbor did the same only left the old gasket in place and squeased rv gasket maker up between the housing and it worked also!!
