Putting a pressure cap on the system, testing the temp gauge for "reality", putting a fanbelt on it, and aligning bent fins, then replacing the coolant.
Not all engines with leaks into the coolant also leak into the exhaust. Pressure test the system with no more than 6# (cap rated pressure) for 2 hours, Pull the spark plugs and crank it over with the coil wire grounded. If coolant comes out of a plug hole, the issue is probably a gasket. (and you will know where to look. If the pressure keeps dropping on the pump used to pressurize the system, and it is not evident in the combustion chambers, it may be a block/head issue. Pull the pan and pressurize it again, to find the origin of the leak. Good luck, it may just need the parts mentioned, and the gauge fixed!
