Super M coolant issue

I picked up a Super M over the weekend. Looked it over for about 30 minutes. Took it for a spin. Noticed the odds and ends that I knew I could put up with and wound up with it for $1200 bucks. I did notice antifreeze/water dripping from the rather poorly fitting radiator cap.

Once I got it home and ran it for an hour or so, I noticed bubbling in the radiator. Uh oh....my blood ran cold for a second but then I thought, no smoke (at all) can't be a cracked block/head right? I didn't go through it yet but I am wondering what all of the likely culprits might be. I have to replace the fan belt (it was loose and dry rotted), I'll need a new radiator cap, and I'll have to clean and straighten the fins. The temp gauge didn't move during the hour I had it running but I wasn't working it either.

What's the best order of business to diagnose things in order? Can I have a cracked head or block or blown gasket without smoke?

Thanks

Jay

If there's bubbles in the radiator with the engine
idling, it's probably a cracked head. Check the
engine oil for antifreeze. The head should be magnafluxed for cracks. Hal

Putting a pressure cap on the system, testing the temp gauge for "reality", putting a fanbelt on it, and aligning bent fins, then replacing the coolant.
Not all engines with leaks into the coolant also leak into the exhaust. Pressure test the system with no more than 6# (cap rated pressure) for 2 hours, Pull the spark plugs and crank it over with the coil wire grounded. If coolant comes out of a plug hole, the issue is probably a gasket. (and you will know where to look. If the pressure keeps dropping on the pump used to pressurize the system, and it is not evident in the combustion chambers, it may be a block/head issue. Pull the pan and pressurize it again, to find the origin of the leak. Good luck, it may just need the parts mentioned, and the gauge fixed!
