Yesterday I changed the oil on my A for the first time. There was a gasket with the new filter and a ring at the bottom of the base plate for the filter. I closed it up tight with the filter and gasket and when I started it up there was oil leaking out of the filter. Now when I took the old filter off there was no gasket but I assumed or guessed that the last person to change the oil was lucky or really strong. Why do you suppose I had a leak with a gasket? I tightened the cover really tight before starting up the tractor. Thanks, Al Fitch Oh, if I had to guess, I"d guess that the newer filters and their gaskets are not a perfect match for the 1944 A. The filter I put in was I believe a Fram filter.
