Hi Don, 784 is like a 684 and has a separate hydraulic pump run off the PTO shaft to control the T/A. The T/A pump is located in the bottom of the housing below the T/A, uses a portion of the return oil from the hyraulic oil cooler and pumps the oil to the T/A regulator valve and then to the selector valve. In direct drive the hydraulic pressure is applied to clutch disks to drive the output shaft. In T/A (low) drive the drive is mechanical thru a sprag clutch. The I&T shop service manual explains how to test the T/A pump. My brother had a similar problem with his 684 and he had a T/A eliminator kit installed as he dosen't use the T/A that much anymore. JB2
