Welp, one of the things about working around the farm is the unexpected incidents that one cannot forsee. This morning I was repairing a gate, one end had been damaged so I decided to cut the hinge pins off , turn the gate end for end and weld them to the good end thus making the gate workable. I was grinding the hinge off the end and after some time felt the heat from the grinder against my leg, I inspected the cut and continues down the other side of the hinge, then stopped, pulled up the glasses and looked down to see flames coming up my side from my coveralls, actually I had a pretty good fire going, by the time I grabbed my glove and beat out the flame I had a hole about 5 inches in cicumference in my coveralls and my work pants underneath had a hole the size of a silver dollar. I stopped at Rona on the way home..Coveralls $42.97,work pants $31.00...an expensive lesson on safety..I didn't think sparks from a grinder could light you up but these nylon, rayon/acrylic fabrics we have today tend to have a lower flash point, looks like it melted before it burned..anyway that's the last time I am going to make an ash of myself on the tractor line....Mike in Exeter Ontario
