Most letter series tractors & many "F" series also have an engine serial # stamped on the block, on a flat spot in front of the area where the #1 plug goes into the head. If the block was changed out for a new one, the spot will probably not be stamped. Often they are hard to read, but by using a pencil and paper, you can sometimes get the number by rubbing the pencil over the paper on the flat spot. Be sure to clean all paint off clear down to the metal. On early models the engine # & tractor serial # are probably the same, later ones they are probably not. If all you can find is the engine #, it'll give you a # "close" to the serial #. You can also check the casting codes. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
