Good question...I have 3 H heads out in the shed, and one on a running tractor. All 4 have had the part # under the valve cover ground off. One has the R1 part# stamped on the side of the head with hand stamps. I'm pretty sure all were origionally Dist. heads. All 4 have the X1 added to the serial number, but not factory added. I don't know if this was standard practice years ago, or something some dealers did when they converted the tractors to gas. I think I've read where the valves are different sizes in the different heads, but haven't checked them out yet. ken
