ok, a couple of notes that might help.

1- A flaw in the casting can make some part numbers easy to misread.

2- I don't have a 404 in my barn, I'm looking stuff up in a parts book for you.

3- My experience is that IH parts books are fairly accurate, but I don't totally rule out the possibility that you are locating an error in the book.

4- Keep in mind that the numbers listed in the parts book are sometimes the number of the currently available replacement part for that tractor at the time of printing rather than what originally was used (the engine block number for the C or Super C Farmall is a good example.).

5- I am purposely leaving off any digits after the 'R' because they are simply a revision level that can and often does change over the production run of a tractor line.

With these thoughts in mind:

- 375574R is a match for the "rear frame front cover assy".

- 375578R I am going to assume a misread (likely, or possible an error in the parts book) of the last digit (the 8 should be a 3) for the "375573R rear frame".

- 875687R I am going to assume a misread of 2 digits (the 8 should be a 3 and the 6 should be a 9) for the "375987R rear axle RH carrier".

- 379678 I can find no info on at the moment (ref notes above for possibilities).

- 374024R2 I can find no info on at the moment (ref notes above for possibilities).

My best guess from the numbers that do match (and the fact that you said it looked like the 404 in the photos section) is that you have a 404 (or 2404). That should have a 4 spd tranny, a high/low range (from the serial number suffix), and a utility or standard tread design (a wide front end and either 24 or 28" diameter rear tires as opposed to 36 or 38" on the row crop models). You said gasoline engine. The only gas motor used was the C-135 4cylinder. Tractor wise, the only other models the C135 engine was used in was the 330 and 340 but those would not be interchangeable with the 404. In my last post I sugested you look above the distributor (near the 377009R) for a casting 'C-135' on the side near the oil filter and look for an engine serial number stamped on a flat near it. The engine number should be above 100500 if my assumptions are right. It should have a 14 bolt cylinder head (pull the hood and look between the valve cover and the manifold you should see 7 bolts, the other 7 are under the valve cover). If you don't see 'C-135', what do you see? (maybe C146 or C153 ?...) I also posted the "375690R clutch housing", that might be worth looking for. It should be the same piece the SN tag was on.
