Hal: When I had 504, I was told there was not enough metal for boring. Now, I will admit I didn't ask for second opinions. I was in a situation either my old 300 or the 7 year old 504 were being traded off on a new tractor. Since I only wanted the tractor for pulling hay and silage wagons, plus the IH dealer would allow me $3,000. more for 504 than 300, money was tight, plus 300 had more drawbar pull. All those factors entered into my decission. I could readily see the dealers position, 7 year old 504 with 3 point hitch and 1,500 hours was worth a lot more on his lot than a 20 year old 300 with 15,000 hours and on it's 3rd set of pistons and sleves.
