The last time I used Mr. Haney (just taking the dog for a ride) I decided it was time to do something about the clutch. It had always seemed weak (hard to describe that feel) and this trip, when I started out in fifth in a patch of sand I managed to let the pedal all the way out without the tractor's moving or the engine stalling.
I ordered a kit (pressure plate, friction disc, release and pilot bearings) from this site last Friday night, came Wednesday. Thursday I started in on it.
Almost finished, too. But when I wanged my and on the housing hard enough to keep the fingers from moving for a few minutes I decided to let it cool down for a day or two.
But here's the question.
The clutch joint, where the clutch shaft attaches to the transmission shaft. A two hole yoke at the end of each shaft. Four tapered bolts, each with two rubber washers. The "clutch joint ring."
The IH Service manual has no illustration, neither the I&T or the parts catalogue is quite discernable.
In the parts book I can see the way to turn the ring, so that the length is as long as possible, but what's the order of the bolt, ring, yoke, washers?
The exploded view in the parts book appears to show that the bolt goes through the ring then the yoke, with the lock washer and nut tightening against the dog ear of the shaft, but where do the rubber washers go? One between the bolt head and ring and one between the ring and shaft is my best quess, but since I'm pretty sure I got it wrong last time and don't remember how that was anyway I thought I'd ask.
Thanks, Wm
