The last time I used Mr. Haney (just taking the dog for a ride) I decided it was time to do something about the clutch. It had always seemed weak (hard to describe that feel) and this trip, when I started out in fifth in a patch of sand I managed to let the pedal all the way out without the tractor's moving or the engine stalling.
I ordered a kit (pressure plate, friction disc, release and pilot bearings) from this site last Friday night, came Wednesday. Thursday I started in on it. Almost finished, too. But when I wanged my and on the housing hard enough to keep the fingers from moving for a few minutes I decided to let it cool down for a day or two.
But here's the question.
The clutch joint, where the clutch shaft attaches to the transmission shaft. A two hole yoke at the end of each shaft. Four tapered bolts, each with two rubber washers. The "clutch joint ring." The IH Service manual has no illustration, neither the I&T or the parts catalogue is quite discernable. In the parts book I can see the way to turn the ring, so that the length is as long as possible, but what's the order of the bolt, ring, yoke, washers?
The exploded view in the parts book appears to show that the bolt goes through the ring then the yoke, with the lock washer and nut tightening against the dog ear of the shaft, but where do the rubber washers go? One between the bolt head and ring and one between the ring and shaft is my best quess, but since I'm pretty sure I got it wrong last time and don't remember how that was anyway I thought I'd ask.
Thanks, Wm

William The rubber washer should be in a steel cup. First put rubber washer and cup on screw with cup at head of screw then the drive ring or plate then the other rubber washer and cup, rubber first against the drive plate then through the dog ear on clutch or tranny drive so you have rubber to the drive plate both sides. Which ever you do first clutch or tranny is ok, you will see that the screw is tappered to tighten in to the dog ear tight. Hope this helps. This just makes some what of a u joint for a little give.

Thanks, Aces
I don't want to go into how wrong I got it the last time, when I went in to replace the 4th/5th slider. Wm
