I farmed for a living in my younger days. The 7 or 8 mainline companies putting out tractors in the 60s & 70s all had decent products. I have yet to see what I consider to be the perfect tractor. All new tractors back then had at least one feature I liked. Deere should be coming closer to the perfect tractor than anyone, as they never had any first ideas of their own, just did a great job of picking up and marketing other companies ideas, like Oliver's 6 cylinder, Cockshutt's IPTO, Ferguson's 3 point, IH's TA. etc. I farmed with in my lifetime 16 Farmalls, 1 Deere, 2 Case and 1 M-F. The dealer behind the tractor is what makes them great to the commercial farmer.

Now for the story, behind the hat. I have a friend who farmed with Farmalls in the same era as I did, still has his Super M and Super A. Today his sons farm with 5 Deeres. The boys were always giving me a hard time about coming in their shop wearing my Farmall or IH hat. This place was for green hats only. I decided to comply with their wishes and get a green hat. One item I do notice, the mesh on back of the Oliver hat keeps the sun's rays off my bald head much better than my Farmall or IH hat.

When Bob caught up with us for the photo, I wanted to go to my suitcase for my Farmall hat. He wouldn't hear of it. I can tell you this, I am going to own an Oliver before I croak.
