Dang those Champion Plugs

I put my liftall pump back in the H today and got ready to test it. When I pulled back on the lever, the engine was missing. Couldn't hear it when it wasn't under load, but the pump was working really good, and it loaded the engine down a little. I noticed a little bit of a miss the last time I had it running, but the miss went away after a few minutes. I pulled the spark plug wires one at a time, and # 4 was missing. I had plenty of spark from the wire, so I guessed I had a valve sticking. I put a new set of plugs in the tractor the day I brought it home last year, and They probably haven't been run 10 hours since new so I didn't think it could be the plug. I deciced to check the valves, since I've never done anything to the engione except the pulugs & oil change. The valves were badly out of adjustment-intakes way to tight& exhaust too loose. Had to take my new alternator off to get the valve cover off, so it was a afternoon job. When I got it back togather & started again, Still had the miss, but only part of the time. Let it run about 45 min, and it didn't get any better so I switched #4 plug with #3. Arrrrgh, now #3 was missing. Unscrewed the plug and grounded it with the wire still on. It only fired about one time out of ten. Dang them Champions. Found one of the old ones that I took out last year and cleaned it up And she runs good as new. Going to town to get a new set of some other kind of plugs, tomorrow. I didn't know if the liftall pump had been upgraded, or not, because there wasn't any yellow # 8 on the tank. I found out when I pulled the handle back-my 5000# gague went almost to 1000#. Probably because I put a thin stainless steel washer under the relief valve spring. Probably shouldn't have.
