Bill, I converted my 1951 H to 12 volt last fall using a Hitachi No. 14231 alternator. The NAPA part no. is 2138130 and cost was about $50 plus a core for a new rebuilt. I believe the automotive useage for the alternator is for 1978-1980 Nissan 620 or 720 pickup trucks with a 2 liter engine. It fits fine between the valve cover and the hood and it is about an inch smaller in diameter then the common Delco 10-SI. I turned the original H generator bracket upside down and was able to use the existing generator belt so didn't have to play with the pulleys to put on a new belt. By turning the bracket upside down it moves the alternator up about an inch where you have plenty of space. I ended up with about a 1/4" between the alternator and the side of the hood. I have some additional information I can pass along if needed - my email is open. Mine turned out great and cutting a beautiful and old original Farmall hood is out of the question. Hal
