Hi N8Terry, the 454 originally had a generator. Did you do the alternator conversion? I know on my brothers 454 when we converted to a Delco alternator, the simplest solution was to run a new wire to the battery connection on the starter bypassing the voltage regulator and amp meter circuits. The amp meter only shows discharge when switch or lights are turned on. Could this be your problem ? Good luck JB2
