Upper Bolster Pivot Shaft Seal Replacement

I have a leaking pivot shaft seal on my Farmall 400. It looks like the only way to replace it is to drop the front end and pivot shaft. Does anyone have any shortcuts that would not require the complete removal of the front end and pivot shaft? I was thinking that you could drop the shaft just enough to access the seal and pound it out from the back, then replace the seal from underneath.
