I have a F-250 Ford extended cab with a powerstroke and 5-speed manual trans. I loaded my Case ck680 backhoe (the book says it weighs about 13,000 lbs) onto a 24 ft gooseneck trailer with two 7,000 lb axles. I have hauled this up to 85 miles one way and run about 60 mph with no problems. Other posts are correct that the combined rating of the axles is 14,000 lbs and the trailer weight must be included. A lot has to do with where the ball is placed on the tow vehicle. I have mine about 8 and a half inches in front of the rear axle of the pickup. This allows me to transfer a lot of weight to the tow vehicle even onto the front axle. Believe it or not, I can scale that trailer and tow vehicle loaded and be under all the axle weight ratings, but am right at the Load range E tire weight ratings.

Take into consideration what you will be hauling and how far. Heavy trailers are better built, but the trade off is they cost more, weigh more, and have more tires to keep up.
