Allan: During the 1950s, 60s and 70s I had a relative farming in New England. Much older man than I, and now deceased. We quite regularly compared notes. If one used a common dollar there was no rhyme nor reason to pricing used in Canada versus the US. It was not only IH either, all companies were doing the same. There was no formula to it either. What was the status quo one year was not necessarily so the next year.

For well over a decade now, here in Canada, you could have a new 125 hp Deere in your yard, and by new I mean a new one every 3 years, for very little more than a 1066 would have cost you in 1975. You can't buy the tractor, and when the lease is up a US truck picks up the tractor. I say for well over a decade, but the strength of the Canadian dollar seems to be putting and end to this. In the 1990s Deere dealers had no used inventory, all of a sudden they do.

We used to be able to buy a 3 year old Pontiac Grand Prix, coming off lease for $16,000. CAD. Since your dollar started tumbling, we can now buy that same car for $11,000.CAD. For close to 15 years now, used 3/4 ton 4x4 trucks were non existant here in Canada. In the past year, there is all kinds of them.
