Ernz, You used the word "knock", so I assume that the noise is more of a "cracking" or "rapping" sound vs a "tic"? Kinda like a diesel sound? If it is a wristpin, it is it's very early stages of failure tho, 'cause this type noise will usually stay with the enging cold or hot. If the noise completely disappears after the 5 minutes, this means that something is swelling with tempreature and I think you are on the right track suspecting piston slap or a cracked piston, especially if someone did indeed go in there, just throw in a set of rings and not pay any attention to the piston clearance. If on the other hand, the noise is more of a "tic" type sound and seems very high up, it could be coming from the valve train. Perhaps a valve adjustment is in order? Dunno, it's hard to hear it over the phone like this. :>) Allan
