Butch, The 39's had a mechanical kill switch which consited of a choke type cable mounted from the steering post to the actuator on the side of the magneto. To kill the engine one would simply pull the knob and that would ground out the magneto thru the condensor. Since the engine hand crank start, the choke was operated manually by the operator while dismounted from the tractor. The choke adjustment during warmup was also done before mounting the tractor.
