I searched the archives and found a post by Andrew on January 29, 2004. I am copying and pasting his entire post here. "With a short jumper wire, 'wipe' the "BAT" terminal to the "GEN" terminal on the voltage regulator. All you want to do is create a momentary spark when the two terminals are shorted together. I usually use an insulated 10 or 12 gauge wire for this. Insulated, only because most of the time there is close quarters between the teminals and bulkheads or sheet metal and it is mounted in a hard to see area. There are quite a few other posts about polarizing and how to do it, that may have explained the how and why better than I. Sorry for the late response, been getting a neighbors tractor running and relocating snow today. Good Luck"
